Our award winning gluten free bakery uses 22 different kinds of gluten free flours in our over 90 products - hand made in store daily. Regardless of the allergy or food sensitivity you have, we have something yummy in store just for you. Our daily lunch menu rocks with slow roasted meats and homemade sauces. Take home fresh soft bread in more varieties than you can imagine; buns, pizza crusts, cakes, dinner & dessert pies, sweets and pastries, cookies, wraps, muffins. Susan Phipps is a baker and
self-proclaimed foodie, diagnosed with
Celiac disease and 35 other food
intolerance's. She has always had a passion
for home cooking. Taking on the established
norm in everything she does is a lifelong motivation for her and her bakery. Susan will bend your mind on what gluten free is and what it isn't. Her bakery in 2015 won top bakery in Ottawa. Of all bakeries including ones that use wheat. She is often heard saying, "where and why was it ever declared that wheat was the only thing you could bake with"? Her breads, pies, cakes, cookies, squares will have you agreeing with her.
The bakery path was embarked upon a number of years ago culminating in the first Joy of Gluten Free opening on February 18th, 2012. Living in Guayaqui Ecuador for 7 years helped the path as Susan began researching foods in other cultures and examining our ancestor's diets. She then began to experiment with different flours and to teach gluten free cooking classes, which she did for 5 years. This lead and championed her innovative to be able to recreate her favourite recipes by substituting other types of flours for wheat flour. She now uses over 22 different kinds of flours at "the Joy" and is able to recreate anything and everything your heart could ever desire.
With over 25 years of experience as a business woman and entrepreneur having owned several businesses, including 3 food establishments, she now aspires to make everyone's lives easier by offering the best breads, pies and cakes you may have ever indulged in.
